Product Description

Enjoy the rich and refined taste of the Kara-Tara Reserve, a Pinot Noir that represents the ultimate expression of quality winemaking. Crafting this wine begins with winemaker Rudger van Wyk’s quest for the ultimate vineyard site, which he found in the Overberg region. At an elevation of 160m above sea level, this vineyard’s rocky shale soils and cool-climate, misty conditions produce Pinot Noir with exceptional intensity and structure. The careful barrel selection showcases the wine’s depth of flavour, with a ruby garnet hue, and aromas of strawberry, cherry, and peppery spice on the nose. On the palate, note the graceful tannins, elegant mouthfeel, and a long, lingering finish with flavours of strawberry, cherry, and vanilla spice. With 13 years of vine age, the Pinot Noir grapes were hand-picked into small lug-boxes and destemmed before undergoing hand punch-downs, with 30% whole-bunch fermented. The wine was barrel-aged for 12 months in small French oak, with approximately 20% new oak and the balance in neutral oak.
